If I claim unemployment benefits, will it impact my sponsors and will they get problems from government?

Answered by attorney Michael Alexander Yurasov-Lichtenberg (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Havens Lichtenberg PLLC
You can receive unemployment benefits without consequences for your sponsors. Your immigration sponsors promised the U.S. government that they will take care of your living and health care costs if you are unable to do it yourself, and that you will not apply for welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, SSI, subsidized housing, and other forms of public support. Unemployment benefits are a form of insurance; premiums for this insurance were paid by your employer; so, technically, payouts under this insurance do not make you a "public burden" Don't worry, if you apply for a benefit to which you are not entitled as a sponsored immigrant, your application will be denied.

Do we need to apply for a green card renewal that’s about to expire while still on progress?

As long as you submitted your N-400 application while your green card was still valid for at least 6 months, you will not be required to renew the green card while your citizenship application is still pending.

Can my daughter petition for my ex husband to come back to the US to pay his child support?

Answered by attorney Nicklaus James Misiti (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Nicklaus Misiti, PLLC
If she is 21 she can petition for him but depending upon when and why he was deported he may have inadmissibility issues. Also, even if she is successful there is no way to force him to come here. Even if he came here you would have to speak to a family/custody attorney regarding child support.
