How I get my citizenship?

Answered by attorney Alan Lee
Immigration lawyer at Alan Lee Arthur Lee, Attorneys at Law
If you know the facts about your citizenship or have a copy of your citizenship papers or US passport, you should be able to obtain proof of citizenship from U.S.C.I.S. or the Department of State respectively. If you have nothing pertaining to any of the above in your possession, you may be able to obtain further information from the Social Security Administration since you apparently already know your Social Security number. In the event of difficulty with a Social Security office, you could request assistance from their local congressman or senator. If that does not work, you may be able to file a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain a copy of your file with Social Security which would hopefully contain proof of your US citizenship.Due to the limitations of the Lawyers.com Forums, Alan Lee, Esq.'s (the "Firm") participation in responding to questions posted herein does not constitute legal advice, nor legal representation of the person or entity posting a question. Will I have any trouble in immigration for getting a green card as my boyfriend said that he will not file taxes along with me?

Answered by attorney Kevin L. Dixler
Immigration lawyer at Law Office of Kevin L. Dixler
I strongly recommend an appointment with a competent and experienced immigration attorney before you get married. He doesn't seem to trust you, but seems to be violating tax law if either of you claim to be single. Such a declaration is one issue, among others in such a relationship. You may be 'accused of' committing marriage visa fraud, which is a Federal crime, without knowing more facts. The above is general information, not legal advice, and doesn't create an attorney client relationship.
