About Michael McGuire

Michael P. McGuire is an attorney at Weinberger Divorce and Family Law Group LLC. Michael is a distinguished and compassionate legal practitioner dedicated to providing his clients with trusted guidance and exceptional representation in all aspects of their family law matters, including divorce, child custody and parenting time, child support, alimony, domestic violence, marital property division, complex asset valuations, post-judgment motions and modifications, and related matters.

Michael was drawn to practice family law after going through a family law matter himself. He experienced firsthand the difference it makes when you have an attorney on your side fighting for your rights in a very personal and challenging situation. After sustaining an injury in his job as a NYPD police officer, Michael decided to change careers and was inspired to earn his law degree, ultimately becoming a family law attorney. Over the years since, Michael has dedicated himself to providing exceptional legal care, recognizing the pivotal role that his work as a family law attorney makes in the lives of his clients and their children.

As Michael sums up, “This is not corporate law. Family law involves real lives and very personal consequences. I am here to fight for my clients and be their advocate to get them through very difficult times.”

Michael’s method of practicing family law fosters open lines of communication. He takes time to listen attentively to his clients’ concerns and aspirations, while offering realistic and pragmatic guidance through the process to achieve favorable outcomes. Understanding the emotional toll family law matters can take on individuals and families, Michael navigates the legal landscape for his clients with deep empathy, ensuring that his clients have a comprehensive understanding of their legal rights and the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions for themselves and their children at every step in their legal journey.

Before joining the Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, Michael practiced as a criminal defense and matrimonial attorney in New Jersey and New York, honing his skills in high-stakes and emotionally charged courtroom battles. Stemming from his years of handling complex cases, he brings a different perspective to his practice of family law, giving his clients a unique strategic edge.

Drawing from his ability to navigate intense disputes, Michael is uniquely equipped to guide his clients using out-of-court resolution methods, including mediation, even in the most challenging of circumstances. Should court litigation be in his client’s best interests, Michael is a masterful litigator with a tenacity and strategic mindset that set him apart. No matter which path to resolution is pursued, Michael is relentlessly committed to protecting his clients’ rights.

Michael’s clients also benefit from his expert understanding of financial issues involved in divorce and family law matters. With an MBA in Business Administration and Accounting and previous work as an accountant, Michael excels in analyzing financial documentation. This proves invaluable when tackling complex issues such as property division, spousal support, and asset valuations, ensuring his clients receive fair treatment and optimal outcomes.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of his military service, he continued to serve and protect his community as a New York City Police Officer working closely with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office in New York City. During his tenure, he gained invaluable insight into the inner workings of the legal system, witnessing the impact that family disputes, including domestic violence, can have on individuals and communities. This experience fueled his passion for pursuing justice and serving as a voice for those in need.

Michael earned his law degree from Touro Law School, Central Islip, New York, where he had the opportunity to work at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Upon graduating from law school, Mr. McGuire clerked for the Honorable Guy P. Ryan, J.S.C., who presides over Criminal Matters in Ocean County, NJ. This experience allowed Michael to learn a judge’s perspective in the decision-making process. He still uses the knowledge gained during his time working at the New Jersey Superior Courts when preparing motions and oral arguments. He earned a Master of Business Administration in Accounting from St. Joseph’s College, Patchogue, New York.

Michael exclusively practices family law and is admitted to the New Jersey Bar, the New Jersey District Court Bar, and the New York Bar.

Michael resides in Monmouth County with his family and four children. He dedicates his free time to giving back to the community and coaches t-ball every week.
