After graduating cum laude from Howard University, Karen attended Syracuse University College of Law, where she earned her law degree. While enrolled at Syracuse University, Karen also interned at the city attorney’s office in Alexandria, Virginia, and the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
