If someone is receiving Supplemental Security Income, will he lose his benefits if they receive an inheritance?

Answered by attorney Christine James
Estate Planning lawyer at James Law Group
If they receive the inheritance outright it certainly can affect their benefits. I would recommend a special needs trust.

My mother passed away, she didn't leave a will and we are 10 siblings who is entitled to her home?

Is anyone else's name on the home? If not and she isn't married then all of the children share her estate and it will have to go through probate.
