Can I find out about my father's will if I don't have a copy?

Answered by attorney David L. Leon
Estate Planning lawyer at David L. Leon, P.C.
If the will was probated, then it's a public record and you can obtain a copy by going to the courthouse (either in person or on the courthouse's website). If the will has not been probated, but you know who has the original will, you can petition the court to force the person who has the will to provide it to the county clerk. You can then file for probate yourself.

Can my husband put his name on the deed of his brother's condo if he has a POA over his assets?

Not unless the power of attorney explicitly allows this. A power of attorney generally does not include the right to make gifts on behalf of the principal.

Am I responsible for the bills that belonged to my deceased mother?

Edwin George Fee
Answered by attorney Edwin George Fee (Unclaimed Profile)
Estate Planning lawyer at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P.
As long as you didn't obligate yourself regarding the debts (for example, by signing an agreement with the nursing home to be responsible for payment), then you shouldn't be liable for the debts.
