If your sentence is a twelve (12) month sentence, then you may very well have a problem with immigration. Traditionally, attorneys have fought to obtain a sentence for their clients which indicates that the total sentence is less than 12 months (typically 11 months 29 days) to avoid having problems with immigration. I am assuming that you have an attorney. If not, you need to retain legal representation immediately.

What happens if my attorney withdraws from my case because I missed a court date?

Do not call the DA's office. Either your present attorney or your new attorney should make that call. Your attorney should not be able to withdraw from the case without notice to you. Check with the criminal clerks office to see if he has really been withdrawn. Then call your attorney and have a frank discussion with him about representing you or refunding your retainer.

Depends on the county - some times they will appoint someone to represent you; some times the local bar will step in and offer to take over the lawyer's cases. You should learn at your next appearance.
