How do I get a divorce in the state?

Richard B. Jacobson
Answered by attorney Richard B. Jacobson (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Richard B. Jacobson Associates, LLC
First things first: consult an experienced family law attorney in your area. They can make things much easier for you. The lawyer will ask you some questions about yourself, your spouse and the marriage (not usually embarrassing questions, y the way). S/he will then draft a petition and probably some other papers, file them with the court and have them served (= officially delivered) on your spouse. This can be done even if he is in Mexico. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

More information needed. No question that this relationship should have been disclosed to you. You can report this to the State Bar for any disciplinary action that it may take against your attorney but, as far as you are directly concerned, were you damaged by this relationship. Were the results unsatisfactory? You might be able to have whatever court orders were made during this time period vacated because the conflict of interest wasn't disclosed to you.

The engagement ring is a marital asset subject to equitable distribution in the divorce. You should consult with an attorney regarding any other potential issues, as well as your rights and options under Florida law.
