Will my wages be garnished after losing a contempt case and was hit with attorney fees?

Answered by attorney John E. Kirchner (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at John E. Kirchner
A court judgment can be enforced by a garnishment of wages. Whether the creditor chooses to so is its choice and it is not possible for anyone else to answer your question. There are rules as to how much can be collected from each pay check & you need to consult a lawyer in the state where you live to find out what those rules are.

Which state is best for filing a divorce proceeding?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Ronald Leon Bornstein (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Ronald Bornstein, Attorney at Law
In order to properly answer your question, you need to state where your spouse is living, how long they have lived there, whether they are living there temporarily or permanently, where you both last lived together as husband and wife, and for how long. Also, divorce laws vary by state and there can be significant differences on property distribution issues, child-related issues, and other issues, and wherever you file, the court of that state must have jurisdiction over the issue(s) being decided and both parties.

How can I divorce my husband if he got deported back to the Caribbean?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Robert Jason De Groot (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at R. Jason de Groot, P.A.
What you should do is set up a conference with a local family law attorney. The state of Florida has jurisdiction over your marriage if you have been a resident for more than six months, and can enter a judgment dissolving the marriage. But if you have children, you will want to collect child support from him. Since you did not mention children, I will assume that you have none with him and that all you want is a divorce and that there are no marital assets or obligations that need to be divided by the court. You can get a divorce, but you need an attorney to get it done.
