Do I have to pay for the information that is my own case?

You are entitled to your file, but your attorney may request a reasonable cost of copying documents she wishes to maintain in her file. You should retain a new attorney to assist you with your case as well as with recovering the documents, in the event that your former attorney is uncooperative.

Can I be charged for forgery if I sign my husband's name on one of his checks and deposit it in my account?

Yes you can be charged with forgery. The only name you are legally allowed to sign is your own unless you have some kind of written permission to do otherwise. Even with a power of attorney, you still sign your own name on behalf of some other person. Don't break the law.

Does residence take jurisdiction over property purchased or state in which you received marriage license?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Gerard A. Fierro (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Gerard A. Fierro & Associates
The laws of the State where you get divorces would apply. In California, we would look at where the parties resided at the time of the purchase. If you were residing in CA or another Community property state at the time of purchase, the Court will treat the property as "Quasi-Community" property and divide it equally. This assumes that you did not purchase the property with other separate property and keep it separate.
