You can file for divorce in CA if you are a resident of the state & county--this means that you have lived in CA for at least 6 months and in the county for at least 3 months.  Once filed, she would need to be served and the divorce would proceed through the courts.

In Michigan there is no need to be separated prior to initiating a divorce However In some states there is a legal requirement that you be separate for up to a year prior to filing for divorce.

You cannot be actually divorced (returned to the status of single) any sooner than 6 months and 1 day from the date the Respondent is served with the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage, but the actual case can be done sooner than that if an agreement is reached.
