How long do I have to respond to divorce papers after being served?

Marshal Willick
Answered by attorney Marshal Willick (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Willick Law Group
You should have received a copy of a "Summons" along with the "Complaint" - it should explain that you have 20 days from date of service to respond. If a Motion was served at the same time, the time to respond to that is shorter - ten days, although extensions are often sought and granted. You should confer with qualified counsel quickly.

You can finish the case in your old county. It's usually easier to do it that way than changing venue to your new county, but it would depend on individual circumstances.

Depending on what you do with the profit, either way may be more of an advantage. You should talk to a lawyer to discuss this further along with other property issues involved in the divorce process.
