Can my husband sole provider for the family making $250,000 file for divorce then refuse to give me money for a lawyer?

Answered by attorney Monica H. Donaldson Stewart
Divorce lawyer at Donaldson Stewart, P.C.
There is no requirement that one party advance funds to the other for payment of attorney fees. The court has the discretion to award attorney fees (based on the financial resources of the parties and the reasonableness of positions they take throughout the proceedings). You can ask the court to enter a temporary order for him to provide some funds for you to hire counsel, but you will probably have to obtain funds elsewhere to hire the lawyer in the first place to assist with the temporary orders. I recommend you consult with an attorney to discuss this matter in greater detail.

Can i get married again with permission

No, that is not correct.  That would still be bigamy.  There is no affidavit that would allow you to be married to multiple men at the same time.  You can file the divorce yourself without the assistance of an attorney.  You would have to pay the filing fee and that is all.  It is not that expensive to do you it yourself.

What is the percentage of income that can be designated for alimony after a divorce? How?

Alimony, or spousal support as we call it in Michigan, is generally determined on a formula basis. The formula can be ignored depending on mitigating circumstances. Regarding pensions, including military pensions, if they were earned or recruited during the course of the marriage they are normally seen as property. It sounds as if you do not have a particularly good handle on your rights and potential obligations and therefore I highly recommend that you engage an attorney, provide all the details, and gain a reasoned and knowing opinion.
