Temporary Maintenance while living together

Morghan Leia Richardson
Answered by attorney Morghan Leia Richardson (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Richardson Legal PLLC
Generally, you won't get maintenance or support until you separate, but depending on the facts of the other assets, you might be entitled to receive something from the marital home (if you own it). It also sounds like you would need some maintenance once the divorce is final to get you back to work. Talk to some lawyers in your area to get a more detailed response about the facts of your case. Good luck!

My parents want to separate their finances fairly with a third party looking out for both their interests.

Kristen Prata Browde

It can be done - there is no reason that divorce has to be antagonistic, particularly if both parties want to achieve a reasonable settlement. And if an agreement is reached ahead of any filings, there is no need for either party to ever appear in court. Ultimately the parties will have to agree and sign the relevant documents, but a third party could conduct all the discussions with an attorney and work out the framework of the agreement. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to discuss the possibilities.

Will the United States recognize a divorce that is granted in Mexico?

If the divorce is legal in Mexico, it should be legal here. INS may want specific documents to prove it was legally done, so check with them.
