In Michigan you can file for divorce if you meet our residency requirements, however you will have to follow special procedures for giving notice of the proceedings to your husband because he is a foreign national. There are several international compacts dealing with divorces of these nature. Whether Malaysia is signatory, I could not tell without more extensive research. A competent and experienced domestic relations attorney will be able to help you.

What can I do if I have a non-responsive attorney in a divorce case?

If he doesn't respond, send him another email telling him if he doesn't respond, you are going to file a complaint with the local bar association. That should spark a response. If not, do file the complaint. Do you know if your divorce case is even still pending? With no action, the court may have dismissed it. That will be a negative against the attorney as well.

Very possibly, but these cases are very fact specific. If there are a lot of assets to be divided, the COur tmay feel that you can afford to pay your own lawyer. Good luck
