How Do I Serve if I’m Indigent and on Food Stamps?

Answered by attorney Loren Paul Zahn (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Zahn Law Office
If he will accept service by mail, you can mail the documents to him with a Notice and Acknowledgment of Receipt (form FL-117) which he would sign and return. If he agrees to do so, then you don't need to have him professionally served. Another option is to have someone you know in the UK serve him with the documents. They don't have to be served by a professional. Once you get him served, you can seek orders for support and attorney's fees to assist with the rest of your case.

Is there an advantage to file for divorce before the end of the year?

The reality is that since your divorce could not be finalized before the end of the year there is little if any advantage to filing before the end of the year. You should discuss tax implications of the timing of a dissolution with your tax advisor.
