You must file some type of action with the court to obtain a support order. In many courts, you will not be able to collect until the date of filing, so it is best to take action. Consult with an attorney to discuss your rights and options further.

Can I buy a house if my spouse and I are married but living separately?

The problem is that even though you are saying that you are using your own money, your money may be community property until the divorce. Therefore, you may be purchasing the house with community funds. Your best bet to avoid any issues down the road is to get divorced, then purchase the house.
