It's not uncommon - that way the lawyer controls the conversation (and makes more money). You should strongly consider hiring your own attorney. If your husband is the one with all the money he will likely be required to pay all or most of your legal fees.

Generally, you won't get maintenance or support until you separate, but depending on the facts of the other assets, you might be entitled to receive something from the marital home (if you own it).
