Do I need a divorce or were we never married?

From the limited information you have provided it does not appear you are married; but, you need to speak to any attorney in the state where you live to find out more about the statutory requirements to create a marriage; getting the license is probably not sufficient without more.

If I was legally divorced would I be able to get the documents at any courthouse?

Stephen Marc Drucker

If you filed for divorce, then you would need to go to the court in which it was filed. If you do not have a case number, you would give the clerk your name. If your spouse filed for divorce, then you would have needed to be served. If you were not served, you may wish to speak with your spouse to determine what has happened. It is likely that you were never divorced as divorce is a process and usually requires your involvement. If you cannot locate your spouse, you would need a Publication Divorce. If you can locate her, then you would need to file and have her served.

How do I file for divorce if I got married in Mexico many years ago?

Answered by attorney Barbara Peyton (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Peyton & Associates
If you are married, you file for divorce where you now reside. If you don't know where you spouse now is, you can get the court to give you an order permitting service by publication in the spouse's last know city or town. You will probably need a lawyer to get through this process.
