Your friend should either have a lawyer prepare the papers, or if he really doesn't want to hire an attorney, all the Supreme Courts have a free court help office where he can go and get help in preparing these documents (and this will help make sure that the papers are approved by the judge who will sign the divorce). Good luck!

If you want a divorce, file for a divorce. Then you can seek support - though after a relatively short term marriage during which you worked you're unlikely to get spousal support for a great length of time. Child support is a different issue.
