If I was recently divorced and I need to refinance my home but my ex's name is also on the home, can I still refinance the home?

It depends on the language of the final judgment. Have your attorney review the document. If no attorney ask the bank personnel who is handling the refinance for opinion.

Do I keep my house I purchased before the marriage?

William H Nebeker
Answered by attorney William H Nebeker (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Havens Law, LLC
Yes, unless the court finds extreme circumstances to warrant a partition of your house. The general rule is that any property acquisition prior to the marriage remains in the possession of the party acquiring it. The Court may only divide the marital estate, which comprises any property acquired during the marriage. If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to call.

Can a Trinidadian file for a divorce in Trinidad although I was married in Texas to a permanent resident there?

Answered by attorney Renea Overstreet
Divorce lawyer at The Overstreet Law Firm
I only practicei in Texas. No matter where you got married, you can file for divorce in Texas if you meet the residence requirement. You have to live in the state for 6 months and you file in the county you've lived in for 90 days. You would have to ask a lawyer in Trinidad whether you can file there. It's likely that any jurisdiction has a residency and domicile requirement.
