Rebecca K. Waisanen is an associate principal with the firm’s Detroit Office. She focuses her practice on insurance defense and coverage matters.
Originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Rebecca worked in the insurance industry and at the Harvard College Fund before law school. She earned her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law where she was a member of the Northeastern University Law Journal. After obtaining her law degree, Rebecca practiced employment law in Boston before returning to Michigan to clerk for the Honorable Victoria A. Roberts of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Prior to joining Kitch, Rebecca worked at a Detroit law firm providing advice and representation to businesses including the protection of trade secrets, workplace discrimination, contract disputes and class actions.
In Detroit, Rebecca is a member of the Detroit Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Michigan. She is also an active member of the Downtown Synagogue where she serves on several committees. She enjoys coordinating with local and outside organizations to fund educational and social programming for young professionals in downtown Detroit.
While in Boston, Rebecca was a member of the Boston Bar Association and the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts (WBA). As a WBA committee member, Rebecca helped plan the WBA Gala, an annual fundraiser supporting the continuance of the WBA. Rebecca volunteered as an attorney for Greater Boston Legal Services where she assisted low-income clients. An alumna of Sarah Lawrence College, Rebecca maintains a strong relationship with the college and was the Co-Chair of her Reunion Committee.
Ms. Waisanen is licensed to practice in Michigan and Massachusetts, as well as the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.
