Banks & Stubbs was originally established in 1991 by Rafe Banks and Beau Stubbs. Rafe Banks is a former District Attorney of the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit and has specialized in criminal defense law since the late 1980s. Rafe has tried well over 500 jury trials in his distinguished career. Beau Stubbs is a former assistant United States Attorney, County Attorney for Forsyth County, and family law specialist throughout his career at the firm. Over the years, these two have built a reputation of integrity, wisdom, and excellence which sets the standard for legal representation and is the strong foundation upon which Banks, Stubbs & McFarland was founded and continues to operate today. McFarland & McFarland was founded in 1979 by Robert “Bob” McFarland. His son, R. “Parker” McFarland, a fourth generation attorney, quickly followed in his footsteps and became a partner in 2002 after joining the firm a year prior. After a long and successful career, Bob McFarland retired and McFarland & McFarland merged with Banks & Stubbs on July 1, 2015 to form Banks, Stubbs & McFarland. This merged firm, which you know as Banks, Stubbs, & McFarland, is known for providing exceptional legal representation in the fields of Criminal Defense, DUI, Personal Injury, Auto Accidents, Wrongful Death, Divorce, and Estate Planning. Together, the attorneys at Banks, Stubbs & McFarland, LLP have over 200 years of experience with these diverse areas of expertise. The firm’s tradition of excellence has been recognized multiple times and honored with awards such as the “Best of Forsyth” in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020 by the Forsyth County News. Fast-forward to today, and we are more grateful than ever. The firm has seen tremendous growth over the past 2 years and has been able to better serve its clients as a result. The firm hired several new attorneys in its commitment to grow and build upon the foundation of excellence. Among these additions two partners were added in early 2018, Eric Tatum and Jacob Stidham. Eric specializes in family law matters, especially high asset and complex divorces and protective orders while Jacob broadens the criminal defense spectrum with criminal law in the United States District Courts.
