Can a police officer order any individual to take a taxi?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Lawrence Thomas Lewis (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Lawrence Lewis, P.C.
No the police cannot order anyone to spend money on a taxi. Reading that please do not write back in the next 6 months asking about suing an officer that allowed your family member to walk home when the blood alcohol was .05 (below the legal limit), and the family member is killed while stumbling along the roadway. Because in reality, you want in both ways. Good luck.

An assault occurred on Halloween, is it too late to file charges on the individual that assaulted me?

Thomas C. Bulman
Answered by attorney Thomas C. Bulman (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Bulman Law Associates PLLC
It's not too late but it is a waste of time. You should have told the cops immediately. If you have a witness, the prosecutor may go forward. Drop the guy like a bad habit. You may have avoided a life of pain ending in murder, yours.

Is it legal for an off duty officer to threaten me while at my mental health appointment?

Answered by attorney Nathaniel D Shafer
Criminal Law lawyer at Natty Shafer Law
Police officers, just like private citizens, are not allowed to threaten physical harm. Other threats are unlikely to be criminally punishable.
