What can I do about getting attorney funding if I can't afford it?

I assume that you either had a retained attorney or appointed attorney in the trial in which you claim you were wrongfully convicted. I also assume that you were advised of your appellate rights at the time you were sentenced and I expect that if you had an appointed attorney a claim of appeal was filed if your lawyer agreed that you were wrongfully convicted. If you have not already done so, you should request appointed counsel from the court in which you were convicted to handle the appeal. I don't know if there is an Appellate Defender's Office in Eaton County, if there is, you should contact them. You might also contact the Criminal Defense Attorney's Association of Michigan which has an office in Lansing, MI to see if they can be of help. Good Luck.

If I missed my court date, what do I do?

Oscar Ernesto Toscano
Answered by attorney Oscar Ernesto Toscano (Unclaimed Profile)

You need a lawyer. When you appear in court, the court will appoint a PD for you. If you appear, the consequences will be better than if you wait until they arrest you. Typically, when you go in with a lawyer, the court recalls the bench warrant and the case proceeds thereafter.

If we were to start a family before I turn 18, would he get in trouble?

Mark A. Broughton
Answered by attorney Mark A. Broughton (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Mark A. Broughton, PC
You could get in trouble, unless you are married, but I doubt it under these facts. It is a "statutory rape" to have consensual sex with a minor under 18; there is also a violation when the minor is more than 3 years younger, which also fits your situation. But as long as everyone is happy with the situation I doubt anything will come of it.
