I'm subpoenaed to go to court as a witness for the state, what will happen if I plead the 5th?

You have to be in a position to plead the 5th, which means you have committed an offense yourself. If you are granted immunity you must testify or be held in contempt.

Is a lawyer recomended if I was caught shoplifting and charged with a misdemeanor?

You have a constitutional right to an attorney in a criminal case. If you can't afford to hire an attorney, one will be appointed for you free of charge. You should definitely get an attorney. A criminal conviction of theft (even petty theft) is something to be avoided!

What am I facing with marijuana 580 grams intent to sell?

Most people receive probation in this case. The statute allows imprisonment for 16 months, 2 years or 3 years. See Health and Safety Code Section 11359. I recently had a Los Angeles County case where the drug task force said the Client had $6,000,000 worth of marijuana growing in five homes using the entirety of each home. The Client received 9 days County Jail and probation. However, in Orange County a person who admitted selling a small amount combined with selling hydrocodone received 45 days.
