If you are being threatened with a lawsuit, you should always be concerned. However, under the facts given and assuming that there were witnesses present, you should not have any trouble defending yourself in any lawsuit filed by your "friend".

I am not aware of that rule. You may want to Google a local parole attorney in your area and ask them.

How much do you think my fine will be for theft first offense?

You should not be worried about the fine. You should be worried about keeping a crime of moral turpitude off your record. A class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to a 2000 dollar fine and 180 days in jail. Assuming this is your first criminal charge, it will not be even close to a 2000 dollar fine.
