Can I still sue for damages even after a guilty plea; resolution was for going home otherwise its trial?

Answered by attorney Stephen Lewis Freeborn (Unclaimed Profile)

Once you enter a plea and it is accepted by the judge, the case is over. You cannot later change your mind and you cannot sue for damages. Maybe you do not understand, but an Alford Plea is the same as a guilty plea. You pled guilty. The guilty plea was accepted. Case over. You now have a conviction on your record.

IF this is how your life really goes, then you should prepare to be a victim in prison. None of the story sounds believable, but you try it on a jury.

What other inconveniences may I expect after I was caught shoplifting $18 worth in a store?

Criminal Law lawyer at The Rogers Law Firm
The maximum penalty in Missouri for misdemeanor shoplifting (under $500) is 1 year in jail and a fine of $1,000. You should hire an attorney to represent you if you want to get the shoplifting charge dismissed or amended to a lesser offense. If you plead guilty or are convicted of shoplifting, you will have a very difficult time getting a job, renting an apartment, getting a bank loan or federal student aid loan. The shoplifting conviction will show up on your permanent criminal record and it can't be expunged (removed).
