Am i liable at my party?

Richard Keith Oliver
Answered by attorney Richard Keith Oliver (Unclaimed Profile)

Even if you plan on hiring off-duty cops and making them responsible for ensuring no minors are drinking, this could still go badly for you, and who ever owns the house where you intend to host this party, for that matter. You could be in trouble if the cops show up. You could be in trouble if any of the minors drink and leave and get into a legal situation. You could be in trouble if any of the over-21's drink too much and get into a legal situation. There are a lot of bad things that could happen to you in this situation; relatively few good things.

The police addressed me with a warrant for theft by check, I was told to turn myself in, do I have to?

Cynthia Russell Henley

Your choices are to post a cash bond for the full amount of the bond and get it back after the case is over, post a bond through a bondsman paying a percentage that you won't get back, or go to jail. You will also have to hire a lawyer. You might be able to work out the case for a dismissal upon full restitution.

Can I get the drug charges dropped since I had no idea he had them in the car?

What you have is a defense. If they state decides not to drop your case, then you have a choice of demanding a jury trial where the state must prove that you had care, custody, and control of the drugs. Drug cases are very fact sensitive. You should speak to a local criminal defense attorney. There are rarely guarantees in anything, especially criminal law. No attorney should guarantee you a dismissal, as they do not yet have all the facts. Good luck.
