David Marshall Nissman graduated magna cum laude from Emory University. After receiving his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oregon, he pursued a career both as a litigator and an adjunct professor at his alma mater.
After a distinguished career with the Department of Justice as a trial lawyer, publisher, and then as a Presidentially-selected United States Attorney for the Virgin Islands, David retired from public life in 2004 to pursue business, consulting and publishing interests. His anti-public corruption, money laundering, tax, and drug trafficking prosecutions brought him widespread acclaim and, upon his retirement, the United States Attorney’s Office Building in St. Croix was named the David Marshall Nissman Justice Center. The Rotarians selected him as their Man of the Year in 2004. He served as the Publisher for the Department of Justice from 1995-2000, where he and Ed Hagen developed the USABook electronic library. Prior books include Follow the Money (Corpus Juris 2005), the award-winning Proving Federal Crimes (Corpus Juris, 2005), Terrorist Financing (DOJ, 2004), Federal Grand Jury Practice (DOJ 2000), Law of Confessions (West, 1994), The Prosecution Function (Lexington, 1981), and Beating the Insanity Defense (Lexington, 1979).
David, as a former CEO of lending and development firms, understands the issues and difficulties of having inside corporate counsel and hiring outside litigators. He brings a business, legal, and management background to the private practice of law.
As a senior partner at ILP + McChain Miller Nissman, and as a consultant to large-scale commercial development projects, David works on commercial transactions, tax matters, estate planning, real estate transactional matters, extradition cases and as an advisor to law enforcement and government agencies.
