About Rory P. Buckley

What really gets me about dishonest companies is the knowledge imbalance. They have all the information. They’re taking advantage of all of us as consumers who buy their products. This is an abuse of knowledge. For them, it’s all about making as much money as possible. Regardless of what happens to the people who use their dangerous products. They must be held accountable.”

Rory Buckley is a member of Weitz & Luxenberg’s experienced team of mesothelioma and asbestos litigation attorneys. He is focusing primarily on asbestos contaminated talc products.

W&L is proud to count him among our skilled team of litigators working on behalf of victims of asbestos exposure across the country. To date, we have secured more than $8.5 billion in settlements and verdicts on their behalf.

“I am so excited to be part of Weitz & Luxenberg,” Mr. Buckley says. “I’ve known about the law firm and the work they’ve been doing for a long time. They do so much good - for so many people - and I’m glad to be part of their efforts.”

What Really Counts Is Helping People

“I figured out early on in law school that I was a ‘bleeding heart’ plaintiffs’ kind of attorney,” admits Mr. Buckley. “I like to wear the white hat. I want to help regular people - not the big corporations - especially ones that harm regular people, while trying to make as much money as they can.”

He continues, “During law school and when you get out, there are always the companies looking to hire good attorneys. I’ve even interviewed with a few, but it just didn’t feel right.

“He adds, “I’m driven by ethics and principles. I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives. That’s what really counts.”

Well-Known Companies Lied to Us

“For years, you were told J & J’s baby powder was safe. It was the preeminent brand, along with Gold Bond and a few others. That’s why it came as such a blow to find out the company knew its talc could contain asbestos. Asbestos is a known carcinogen, yet the company branded itself as compassionate and caring. They lied,” maintains Mr. Buckley.

Younger People Are Getting Mesothelioma

“It’s horrible what’s happening. We’ve known for years that if you worked in blue-collar industries you were exposed to asbestos and could develop mesothelioma - right when you’re supposed to be retiring and enjoying that time,” insists Mr. Buckley.

“Sadly, we are now seeing clients in their 20s. Young people with their whole lives in front of them. People were often just infants when exposed to asbestos through the baby powder a loved one used on them. Now your lives are being cut short,” Mr. Buckley emphasizes.

Building a Relationship Is Key

“The very first thing in working with a client is reaching out. You build rapport by caring. You assure your clients you are invested in them. You always want to deliver good news. But with mesothelioma, the news isn’t usually good. Hopefully, justice and resolution offer some relief,” states Mr. Buckley.

Legal Skills Dedicated to Helping Regular People

Mr. Buckley brings shared ideals and goals to W&L. Before joining W&L, he worked at another plaintiffs’ firm, handling over 60 cases. His focus was mass torts and toxic tort cases.

He worked with clients from day one until resolution. Mr. Buckley evaluated claims and collaborated with colleagues to bring about the best outcome possible for his clients.

His skills in researching legal issues, drafting motions and pleadings, preparing trial documents, and developing legal strategy are integral to the work W&L does.

Earned His Legal Degree in New York

Mr. Buckley is licensed to practice law in New York. He earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in Queens, N.Y. He earned his B.A. in political science and history from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y.
