Cody M. Greenes has joined the growing number of experienced attorneys in Weitz & Luxenberg’s Mesothelioma and Asbestos Practice Group litigation unit in the firm’s New Jersey office. “The opportunity to work for Weitz & Luxenberg is exciting and a huge privilege,” Mr. Greenes says.

Before choosing to work for Weitz & Luxenberg, Mr. Greenes researched the firm, its history, ethos, and mission. “I knew I wanted to be a part of the firm’s efforts to help people,” Mr. Greenes states.

Making an Impact for Families Dealing with Illness
“Throughout almost a decade of experience, I have discovered how challenging and rewarding handling personal injury cases can be. I’ve met with clients in the hospital who were sick because of defective products.
“I’ve seen the look in a kid’s eyes when visiting a parent in the hospital. Somehow, when you’re in that room and sharing that experience with a family, everything else in the world melts away.

“I’ve had my own personal experience needing and working with a personal injury attorney,” Mr. Greenes discloses. “As a client, I learned how important it is as an attorney to build trust with my clients.

“I do my best to imagine myself in my clients’ shoes and understand where they’re coming from,” Mr. Greenes explains. “When clients feel free to share information, you may learn about critical factors that can really help their case.

“The tragic irony is that the very thing they did to provide for their families ended up making them ill. And even though they’re dealing with such an aggressive cancer as mesothelioma, they still want to provide for their families and put their families first.

Substantial Personal Injury Legal Experience
Prior to joining Weitz & Luxenberg, Mr. Greenes worked for a personal injury law firm in Philadelphia for nearly a decade. He was a case manager for federal and mass tort product liability litigations.
Mr. Greenes represented clients who had suffered personal injury, sometimes life-threatening, because of defective products and medications . The firm handled cases involving gadolinium, Pradaxa, Actos, pelvic mesh, children’s Motrin, and testosterone replacement therapy, among other harmful products.
As a case manager, Mr. Greenes handled cases from start to finish. One of his most enjoyable and rewarding responsibilities was working with clients.
Establishing, sustaining, trusting, and supporting relationships with his clients was an integral part of his job. He also managed interns, paralegals, contract personnel, and staff attorneys.
In addition to acting as lead or sole attorney on multiple individual cases, Mr. Greenes argued successfully as appellee counsel in the Pennsylvania Superior Court.
Helped Secure $10 Million Against Pharmaceutical Giant
One of Mr. Greenes’ most notable achievements was helping to secure a $10 million verdict for a child seriously harmed by defective medication.
He and his firm, in partnership with another law firm, faced off against a pharmaceutical giant to achieve this victory.
Legal Professional and Other Achievements
Mr. Greenes is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Since 2014, Mr. Greenes has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star.
He earned his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, New Jersey, and his B.A. from the University of California in Santa Barbara, California.
Outside of the office, Mr. Greenes likes to continue his work toward social justice. Most recently, that has meant volunteering his time with Philadelphia’s inner-city schools and educational system.
Only a handful of elementary schools in Philadelphia still have active libraries. Mr. Greenes participates in renovation, book-drives and re-education of the importance of making these spaces available at the elementary school level.
Mr. Greenes serves as a volunteer on Congregation Adath Jeshurun’s Board of Directors, and has been a past Trustee and board member for local and national nonprofit organizations.
He has also volunteered with dog rescue and adoption as well as food-security programs. In addition, he enjoys reading, cycling, and playing rugby and volleyball. He is an avid NBA and 76ers fan.
