Donovan M. Powell is a native son of Leon, West Virginia. He attended Point Pleasant High School before beginning his secondary education at Marshall University. He graduated Cum Laude from Marshall where he was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society, Wrestling Club, and Pre-Law Club. During his time at Marshall, he earned his B.A. with focuses in History, Political Science, and Physical Geography. After graduating from Marshall, he pursued his Juris Doctorate at the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, graduating in the spring of 2020.
While attending law school he was a member of the Federalist Society and clerked for a plaintiff’s firm gaining valuable perspective and experience in civil rights litigation, medical malpractice, and personal injury law. He was a Samuel L. Greenebaum Public Service Fellow, volunteered at West Virginia Legal Aid, and clerked at the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office while on breaks and holiday.
Shortly after earning his Juris Doctorate, Donovan returned home and sat for the West Virginia bar exam. After passing the exam, he was admitted to practice as a member of the bar. He began his short solo career in Point Pleasant before joining Pullin, Fowler, Flanagan, Brown & Poe, PLLC as an associate attorney in December of 2020. Much of his practice consists of litigating consumer and employment suits, automobile dealership franchise disputes, advising businesses as they navigate their way through the ever changing challenges businesses face in our current regulatory environment. Mr. Powell also drafts contracts for clients in the fashion industry, entertainment, and production fields.
Being accepted by the New York Supreme Court of Appeals, he is registered with the state to advise and assist his New York Client as In-House counsel. In this capacity he provides industry specific contract and policy formation, navigating nuanced contracts and disputes as they arise through the course of his client’s fashion productions. He has further been admitted to practice in the West Virginia Federal Courts and is a Member of the National Association of Dealer Counsel.
While he is not working for his clients, he takes pleasure in the study of history, spending time with his beloved dog Jeb, home improvement projects, and locating early West Virginia history publications for his collection. He has chosen to stay involved in the community as much as time allows by volunteering as founding member of an Alumni association, founding and funding the Cullen Leadership Award and Scholarship provided years to one graduating PPHS senior wrestler who has shown exceptional leadership setting an example for all else to follow. He has also served as Vice President of the Point Pleasant Sports Alumni Association, volunteers at Big Brothers Big Sisters, and involves himself with the Global Lyme Alliance, Lyme Light Foundation, and the American Lyme Disease Foundation regularly attending and organizing fundraisers and networking events across the country.
