Shawn has nearly 20 years of experience covering several aspects of intellectual property, from patent litigation to trademark registration spanning a range of technologies from pacemakers to cinder blocks. With this perspective, he strives to find creative solutions for each client’s unique situation. Before determining a course of action, Shawn works with clients to gain a solid understanding of their technology. He also draws on previous experience as a science teacher to present complex concepts in an approachable way.
Prior to joining the firm, Shawn ran a solo practice and worked in law firms in Burlington, Boston, and Minneapolis. He was also a clerk in the United States International Trade Commission’s intellectual property enforcement division. Shawn lives in East Montpelier and enjoys hiking, biking, and splitting wood.

• Achieved a favorable settlement for his client, a computer accessories retailer, in patent infringement dispute involving 16 patents.
• Obtains patents for companies and individuals in a wide range of areas of technology, including power electronics for renewable energy generation systems; furniture; inflatable screens; radiators; medical devices; augmented reality display systems; vehicle engines; and machine health monitoring systems.
• Obtained granted patents within 12 months of filing under the USPTO’s Accelerated Examination procedures.
