My sister lived in Bryson City and passed away in 2024. She had asked me to be her Executor and I lived in Florida. Upon her passing, I needed an estate attorney that was knowledgeable, responsive and respected in the community. I was fortunate to have hired Jonathan Mattox. His advice and guidance allowed me to successfully manage my sister's estate from another state; all to the benefit of her 5 beneficiaries. Plus, the responsiveness of the firm allowed the process of closing her various accounts to flow smoothly.

In 2017 I paid attorney Elizabeth Brigham (Bryson City) to transfer a deed of property from my late sister (I was executor) to her heirs (her nieces). My sister died in Florida, but her will was written in NC and I'm in NC, so the Florida probate lawyer recommended Brigham (because they had done business with her before). I recently discovered that the deed to the property (undeveloped parcel in Brunswick County) is still in my late sister's name. The deed transfer apparently was never done, although I can provide e-mail from Brigham that "Docs were received back from Brunswick County today. You should be good to close the FL estate." I want to contact the Brigham law firm (now Brigham and Mattox) to find out why the deed change was not made. (I certainly paid them). I called the law firm, but Elizabeth Brigham, who supposedly handled the land transfer, has retired, and the receptionist refused to give me any other contact person

Worst experience ever. They sent a check to a wring address twice. I paid for the mistakes. Horrible communication. No call backs. When we complained they hung up on us. Very weird experience.

My experience with Elizabeth was a terrible one. I have worked with many lawyers in my professional life. I found Elizabeth to be unprofessional and rude. It was the worst experience I have ever had with an attorney. She should learn how to treat clients in a professional manner. I would not recommend her to my worst enemy.
