About Mr. James E. Mitchell, Jr.

Following his admission to the Bar in 2003, Jimmy went into private practice with a firm devoted to representing plaintiffs in civil litigation. He gained considerable experience in many areas of the law and has tried many cases, both jury and non-jury, on his own. His past experience representing plaintiffs gives him a unique ability to evaluate a case, early on, from the plaintiff's and defendant’s point of view. Jimmy’s primary areas of practice are in workers’ compensation, construction, appellate advocacy and general insurance defense. Jimmy has been called upon to write Amici Briefs for various businesses and trade organizations. He speaks and presents for small and large businesses, employers, insurers, self-insurer funds, third party claims administrators, claims professionals and other industry groups on various topics including construction defect claims, workers' compensation claims and the utilization review process in Alabama. He frequents workers' compensation and construction law seminars and conferences throughout Alabama and the U.S. so as to always stay on top of the current issues, trends and practices.

Jimmy has always had a passion for technology. He ensures that the attorneys and staff at Berryhill & Mitchell are technologically savvy, not only with office technology, but with mobile devices and applications as well as courtroom technology so that Berryhill & Mitchell can most effectively and efficiently communicate with, and represent, our clients. Jimmy, combining his knowledge of Alabama’s Workers’ Compensation Act with his passion for computers and technology, created the algorithms and calculations for our workers’ comp calculators.

Personal

Jimmy was born and raised in Abingdon, Virginia. Jimmy and his wife Aarin, a first grade public school teacher who he met at the University of Kentucky, are the proud parents of two daughters. The Mitchells are avid Kentucky Wildcat fans.
