About Mr. Chandler A. Burleson

Chandler A. Burleson is an associate in the Birmingham office of Hall Booth Smith, P.C., and focuses his practice on general liability matters.

Before joining HBS, Chandler served as Assistant General Counsel for the South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources and Administration. In that role, he was lead counsel for the Obligation Recovery Center, Procurement, Property Management, Fleet and Travel, and Surplus Property, advising on a range of legal issues involving contracts, public projects, and regulatory compliance. He also supported the Governor’s General Counsel on key initiatives and served on the BHRA Legislative Task Force.

Chandler gained valuable legal experience through internships and clerkships in both government and private practice. He supported a former Governor Kristi Noem’s legal team on legislative and constitutional matters, drafted executive orders, and represented the Department of Education in judicial and administrative proceedings. He also conducted research and prepared administrative decisions for multiple state agencies. In private practice settings, Chandler assisted with legal research and drafting across a range of matters including estate planning, contracts, fraud, criminal defense, real property, construction, probate, torts, and contract disputes.

Chandler earned his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he received CALI Awards in administrative law, oil and gas law, and American legal procedures and practice. He holds a B.S. in social science with a minor in education from Troy University, where he graduated cum laude and was captain of the rugby team.
