Can we sell our jointly owned home before bankruptcy?

You can sell your home prior to filing bankruptcy. However, the amount you receive could potentially affect whether you can file at this time. Also, what you do with the proceeds is important. The trustee would use that money to pay creditors. I highly suggest you speak to an attorney before going forward with the sale.

Can the hospital turn my bills over to a collection agency?

Jennifer Jakob-Barnes

Yes, if the hospital has not agreed in writing to some sort of payment plan, the whole amount is due. They can send it to someone else to collect.

What happens if I can no longer pay my bills?

Maureen O'Malley

I'm glad you had the surgery. Life with pain is no life. You can file bankruptcy. Student loans aren't dischargeable unless you can't work at all. Medical bills and credit card bills are dischargeable. But please see a lawyer for help with filing; otherwise you could screw yourself and cost yourself a lot more than a lawyer would charge.
