Can debt collectors still try to garnish wages if I told them I filed for bankruptcy?

Telling someone you filed for bankruptcy makes no difference if it is not true. If you actually filed a bankruptcy case then the collectors cannot contact you or take any action against you, including garnishing wages.

Are judgments included in Chapter 7 bankruptcy?

Answered by attorney Deborah A. Stencel (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Law Offices of Deborah A. Stencel
If the debt is a kind of debt that is dischargeable, you can still discharge the debt even though there is a judgment. You may have to take extra steps to have the judgment satisfied in state court or to have the judgment lien lifted, however. Speak to your attorney about this.

Should she walk away from her mortgage or file bankruptcy?

If she wants to give up the house it is not necessary to file bankruptcy. Unless there is a re-financed loan a foreclosure will relieve her of what is owed. However, there could be complications depending on further facts. Consult an attorney regarding details.
