How far in debt to file for bankruptcy and why?

Richard B. Jacobson
Answered by attorney Richard B. Jacobson (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Richard B. Jacobson Associates, LLC
There is no magic number. The only real question is do you feel you need to file. It is very rare for anyone to ask why you are filing since the reason is usually obvious: you can't pay your debts and you are feeling the strain. Retain an experienced lawyer.

How long will he be able to stay in the house if bankruptcy was already filed?

Answered by attorney Marjorie A. Guymon
Bankruptcy lawyer at Goldsmith & Guymon, P.C.
He will be able to stay in the house until foreclosure is initiated. This is really up to the bank. I have seen banks take years to foreclose.
