Jonathan “Jono” Cooper focuses his practice primarily on estate and tax planning for individuals and families in Texas. Jono works closely with clients and their advisors to create plans to pursue their goals while analyzing potential conflicts and minimizing gift, estate and income taxes. Jono also represents corporate and individual fiduciaries in connection with the administration of estates and trusts, ensuring compliance with Texas and Federal law. Jono in his practice also represents corporate and individual fiduciaries in disputes in matters involving breach of fiduciary duty, contested estate and trust proceedings, and guardianship matters.
Jono’s practice encompasses a wide range of services, including estate, gift, and charitable planning and tax planning. He helps to prepare wills, documents addressing incapacity, revocable and irrevocable trusts, estate and gift tax returns, revocable and irrevocable trusts, estate and gift tax returns, and accountings for administrators. Jono also represents fiduciaries guiding them through litigation, addressing and developing strategies, and addressing matters through pre-suit risk management, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution when possible.
Jono is actively involved in the community, particularly in the rugby community. He has served on the board of the Texas Rugby Referee Association, helping manage and run matches in Texas from middle school all the way to Major League Rugby. He is also a member of various organizations in the Austin area, including the Austin Young Lawyer’s Association, the Knights of Columbus, and the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Austin Bar.
