Previously, he served as an intern for Legal Aid of North Carolina as member of the Greensboro Housing Department. Rodney also served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. As a member of the Trial Services Office, Legal Services Support Team Parris Island, he directly supported the military justice and defense sections in court-martial proceedings.

Rodney earned his Juris Doctor from Elon University and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Georgia State University.
